Couple sues North Carolina airport over son's death

The parents of a North Carolina teenager who fell to his death after stowing away in the wheel well of a passenger jet are suing the Charlotte Douglass International Airport over the incident. The wrongful death claim, which also names the City of Charlotte and two airlines as co-defendants, argues that the airport's lack of proper security and safety regulations allowed the 16-year-old victim to easily sneak onto the runway and enter the plane's wheel well.

North Carolina accident leaves DOT worker dead

A worker with the North Carolina Department of Transportation is dead following a dump truck accident on a stretch of state highway that was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. The accident left the highway closed for several hours after. Authorities have reopened the roadway during daylight hours, but traffic is limited to four-wheel drive vehicles due to potentially hazardous conditions remaining from the recent storms.

North Carolina man charged in fatal accident

A 50-year-old North Carolina man faces jail time after being arrested in connection to a truck accident that left a tow truck driver dead. The suspect faces numerous criminal charges, including driving while impaired, felony hit and run and second degree murder. Police say the man has 11 previous license revocations and eight DWI convictions on his criminal record. He has been detained on $1 million bail and is presumed to be a flight risk, as he has no permanent ties to the area.

North Carolina man sues federal government over amputation

A 48-year-old former inmate has sued federal government, claiming that preventable delays by prison medical staff resulted in the amputation of his genitals. In the medical malpractice lawsuit, the North Carolina man claims that medical staff failed to test a lesion on his genitalia during his incarceration; the lesion was eventually found to be cancerous after it was too late to avoid an amputation.
