Authorities report drivers in that region suffer more personal injury than those in any other area, with a crash rate that is a full 50 percent higher than the rest of the state. Pitt County drivers suffer 306.7 crashes per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, according to the report issued by AAA Carolinas.

Politician seeks injury money from at-fault driver's estate

A former North Carolina state representative has been permitted to file a personal injury suit in connection with a car accident in 2011 that killed the at-fault driver and left the victim with serious injuries. The man, Rep. Larry Womble, D-Forsyth, filed a suit alleging that the driver had been intoxicated behind the wheel when he caused the fatal accident. The representative is filing the suit against the man's estate, since he is no longer alive to respond to the claim.
