5-vehicle crash kills 2, injures at least 2 others

In High Point, two people were killed and two others were injured when an SUV drove the wrong way on West Wendover Avenue at the Penny Road intersection. Allegedly, the SUV initiated a five-vehicle wreck. The event happened shortly after 9 a.m. on Nov. 29.

Police said that several witnesses began notifying emergency services just after 9 a.m. about a white SUV traveling west in the eastbound lanes of West Wendover Avenue. The wrong-way vehicle hit two cars and two other SUVs. The 44-year-old Union County man behind the wheel of the wrong-way SUV died at the crash site, officials said. A 73-year-old High Point woman died as she was being transported to the hospital, while two other drivers suffered unspecified injuries. A passenger and driver of another vehicle were uninjured, reportedly.

Authorities called in a Highway Patrol helicopter to snap aerial photos of the site to obtain more details about the accident. Police reportedly believe that speed contributed to the collision.

People who suffered demonstrable damages on account of the wreck may take particular interest in the investigative work performed by the police. For, they may adopt material from it should they wish to retain a personal injury attorney and file a lawsuit.

Speed is only one of several common factors that contribute to car accidents. Others include drunk driving, distracted driving and driver fatigue. Drivers who cause fatal crashes because of these factors might be susceptible to civil action filed in connection with the crash, including a wrongful death lawsuit.

North Carolina's wrongful death statute allows the representatives of fatal crash victims to seek compensation on behalf of the surviving family members. Representatives who are not attorneys could seek the help of attorneys in filing wrongful death claims.
