A 50-year-old North Carolina man faces jail time after being arrested in connection to a truck accident that left a tow truck driver dead. The suspect faces numerous criminal charges, including driving while impaired, felony hit and run and second degree murder. Police say the man has 11 previous license revocations and eight DWI convictions on his criminal record. He has been detained on $1 million bail and is presumed to be a flight risk, as he has no permanent ties to the area.

North Carolina lawmaker charged in fatal accident

A North Carolina state representative has turned himself after being charged in the traffic death of a 55-year-old man. The representative, who was seriously injured in the 2011 accident, faces charges of misdemeanor death by vehicle. The representative's attorney said he was informed of the planned charge by police, adding that his client "always knew that this was always a possibility." Although, the representative faces criminal charges for his role in the fatal accident, the relatives of the deceased victim could pursue a wrongful death lawsuit in order to seek compensation for the death of their loved one. It is unclear whether they plan to do so, however. A family member of the victim said he was aware of the charge, but declined to discuss the matter further.

The victim's step-father says the woman's family wants authorities to take action and extradite the suspect away from North Carolina.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is seeking witnesses to a car accident that left a 25-year-old man dead and four more people injured. Police say the man's vehicle veered across the center line before colliding with a van, but it remains unclear what caused the car to cross the line.

Car accident leaves two dead in North Carolina

One person is dead following a single-car crash in North Carolina. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred at around 3 a.m. in Union County, about 180 miles from Wrightsville Beach. A trooper with the NCHP who helped process the crash site said the driver appeared to have been traveling over 90 mph just before the crash. Police do not believe the driver was impaired by alcohol at the time.

The 56-year-old woman plead guilty to reckless driving for her role in the accident, causing a judge to order her to pay a $200 fine and forfeit her driver's license for six months.

A 22-year-old woman is dead after being involved in car accident in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was attending college in the town at the time of the crash. Police have not yet filed charges related to the accident, but told local reporters that alcohol and excessive speeds appear to have contributed to the accident.
