Black ice is being blamed as the cause of a seven-vehicle wreck that occurred on U.S. 52 North in North Carolina. The massive truck accident occurred on Feb. 17, when a woman behind the wheel of a pickup truck lost control of her vehicle, causing it to flip onto a guardrail. That driver was reportedly traveling slower than the posted speed limit, but her vehicle still spun out of control upon contact with the ice. She suffered only minor injuries in the crash. A volunteer fire department truck was also involved in the truck accident.
Five military members in North Carolina suffered serious injuries after a collision in Scotland County. The soldiers were on their way to serve as honor guard at a veteran's funeral on Jan. 3 when they were struck by a logging truck. It appears that the driver of the van, who is also an active-duty military member, failed to yield while crossing a major road, driving into oncoming traffic and the path of the larger vehicle. The 22-year-old driver of the van received traffic citations for his role in the truck accident.
A man responsible for a truck accident that killed three North Carolina drivers on Interstate 40 will serve more than a decade in jail. The man, age 52, was formally sentenced to approximately 11 years' prison time on Oct. 29 after pleading guilty to several charges, including possession of marijuana, involuntary manslaughter and possession of drug paraphernalia.
New reports about a fatal truck accident on U.S. 52 on May 6 indicate that the driver of the large vehicle may have been speeding. Authorities say that the 45-year-old North Carolina man was traveling at about 70 mph in a 55 mph zone, disobeying the speed limit despite inclement weather conditions. Investigators are still considering whether to charge the man with criminal activity in connection with the crash.
